Ecomty Ltd ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Subkio brand, the website https://subkio.com, and the Subkio: Watch with Two Subtitles browser extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy in strict accordance with the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / RGPD, Regulation (EU) 2016/679), the UK GDPR, and the Google Chrome Web Store User Data Policy.
1. Zero-Account & Local-First Privacy Architecture
Subkio is engineered on a strict data minimization principle:
- No Mandatory Account: You do not need to create an account, provide your name, or log in to use Subkio.
- Local Device Storage Only (
chrome.storage.local): All extension preferences (selected languages, font sizes, colors, blur state), daily free usage timers, and saved vocabulary phrases are stored exclusively on your local computer inside your browser'schrome.storage.localAPI. We do not operate a central database that collects your saved phrases or watch history. - No Browsing History Tracking: Subkio never reads, logs, or sells your general web browsing history.
2. Google Chrome Web Store Permissions & "Limited Use" Disclosure
The use of information received from Google APIs and Chrome Extension APIs adheres strictly to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Below is the exact justification for every permission declared in our extension's manifest.json:
storage: Used solely to save your subtitle preferences, saved vocabulary list, daily usage counter, and Pro license status locally on your device.*://*.youtube.com/*and*://*.netflix.com/*: Used solely to read active video subtitle tracks and render the Subkio dual-subtitle overlay inside the video player when you watch a video.https://translate.googleapis.com/*: Used solely to translate subtitle text and hovered words into your selected target language in real time.https://api.lemonsqueezy.com/*(and authorized Merchant of Record license endpoints): Used solely when you voluntarily enter a Pro License Key to verify activation status.
3. Website Analytics & Cookies (Cookieless by Default)
Our website https://subkio.com does not use invasive third-party advertising trackers, behavioral profiling pixels, or cross-site tracking cookies. Fonts and stylesheets are self-hosted so your IP address is not transmitted to third-party font servers.
4. Payment Processing (Merchant of Record)
When you purchase a Subkio Pro plan (Monthly, Yearly, or Lifetime), checkout and invoicing are handled by our authorized Merchant of Record (such as LemonSqueezy, Polar, Dodo Payments, or Creem). Subkio never sees, processes, or stores your raw credit card number. The Merchant of Record processes your billing email and tax country strictly to issue your invoice, handle VAT, and deliver your Subkio License Key under GDPR Article 6(1)(b) for the performance of a contract.
5. Your Rights Under European GDPR (RGPD)
If you reside in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or export any personal billing data associated with your license key, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (such as the CNIL in France).
